       20/11/20 Friday 20th November 9:44

Today's report: Snorkelling Trip from Wesley Primary

What a sunny day it was and the only way to cool yourself is to go out and have some fun at … The Jellicoe pools and that's exactly what the years fours, fives and six´s from Auckland's  Wesley Primary school did.

These responsibile students from Wesley Primary did an amazing job in the water and will be great experts once they are grown up.

They have learned amazing Techniques and skills about snorkelling, swimming and diving.

One of the students from Wesley Primary asked our news reporter¨ my favourite Technique was the dolphin dive¨

The student's name was Peyton. She said this is how you do a dolphin dive so first you  go underwater then come up and blow like a whale. You could really  tell that Wesley Primary School had an amazing time there.

MY GENESIS TRIP!!🤩😁

                                    Emirates Viaduct Trip

Yesterday the year 4,5s went on a trip to the viaduct harbour for the genesis trip. When we got to school i walked to the hall and put on my orange genesis t-shirt then a few seconds later Mrs Bound put us into our groups group A and B we also had parent helpers they were my mum Tyriques grandma and Caedons mum. The people in my group were: Mele,Hena,Luminous,Breeze,Tema, and Yon. First up was racing with sphero bolts. Sphero bolts are small robots and we could control the robot on a small ipad. We had so much fun it was also really funny because some of the girls Robots crashed into each other.

Next up was meeting the sailors from the new zealand Emirates crew. We met Finn,Steven and Marius and we got to ask them interesting questions about them. After that we went into the spark headquarters and did cool activities with our instructor Sofie. We made cool boats on a pink ipad that said activate and we had a competition who can get the most scores and Mele U won… after that we had virtual team photo´s with the sailors we could choose who we wanted to take a picture with.

After we went inside the cool spark headquarters we came out and Sofie said ¨we got your team goody bags¨ and our crew felt

really ecstatic.Inside the bag we got a book, pen and a hat.
The End🥰

🧐Are we really keeping our school clean?🧐

Are we keeping our school clean?

One sunny day I was sitting down eating my lunch with my friends on the grey bench outside.Suddenly our teacher was strolling down the path, but little did she know that there was a piece of plastic on the concrete and while she was walking she slipped and was screaming in pain.

I believe that Wetere Kura should be kaitiakis of our land and moana by picking up rubbish because it may hurt us and creatures from land and Moana.

I also believe that we should dispose of our masks properly. The right way to dispose of our masks is to cut off the strings because birds get tangled in the strings.

🐢Save The Turtle Issues and facts written by hena siobhan sienna and me this is our action plan project🐢

(siobhan)

Turtles are slaughtered for their eggs, meat, skin and shells, sea turtles suffer from poaching and over - exploitation.... Nearly all species of sea turtles are now classified as endangered, with three of the seven existing species being critically endangered.

(hena)

Sea turtles and other marine creatures mistake plastics and other garbage as food (such as jellyfish) and ingest it. This mistake causes blockages within their digestive system and eventual death. According to the US EPA, Americans use more than 380 billion plastic bags and wraps each year.

(sienna)

Over 1,000 sea turtles are killed every year from plastic waste in the oceans and on beaches. A new worldwide study found that the rise in plastic refuse in the oceans is disproportionately hurting young turtles, including hatchlings, of all species.

(sarah)

Sharp plastics can rupture internal organs and bags can cause intestinal blockages leaving turtles unable to feed, resulting in starvation. Even if they survive, consuming plastic can make turtles unnaturally buoyant, which can stunt their growth and lead to slow reproduction rates.

(Siobhan)

Reduce marine debris that may entangle or be accidentally eaten by sea turtles.

Participate in coastal clean-ups and reduce plastic use to keep our beaches and ocean clean. ...

Carry reusable water bottles and shopping bags. ...

Keep nesting beaches dark and safe for sea turtles.

(Hena)

Sea turtles clearly play important roles in marine ecosystems. ... Whether by grazing on Seagrass, controlling sponge distribution, feasting on jellyfish, transporting nutrients or supporting other marine life, sea turtles play vital roles in maintaining the health of the oceans.
